People masturbate for different reasons which we’re going to dive into below.  But most people masturbate because it feels good. Many people think that masturbation is only something you do when you don't have a sex partner. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Check out the top reasons below to masturbate!

Reason 1 – Strengthens your Pelvic Floor

The group of internal muscles work together to support pelvic organs, including the vagina, uterus, bladder, and bowels. Weak pelvic floor muscles are associated with urinary/bowel incontinence (for instance, leaking every time you sneeze), lower back/pelvic floor pain, discomfort during penetrative sex for vulva owners, constipation and most importantly prolapse. Masturbating won’t heal these things, but it’s a great way to help prevent pelvic floor weakness.

Reason 2 – Helps Dull Pain

Orgasming releases dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin, the body's feel-good hormones and neuro-transmitters, into the body. In fact, vaginal stimulation can actually increase someone’s pain tolerance threshold by over 40%

Reason 3 – Relieves Stress

Orgasming releases oxytocin, which decreases levels of cortisol in the body, which in turn decreases stress.

Masturbating before partnered sex can sometimes help you last longer with your partner because it will take you longer to orgasm the second time around. Also, you can train yourself to last longer with edging during your solo time.

Having an orgasm before bed can help you fall asleep faster due to the release of oxytocin, which has been shown to promote sleep.  Norepinephrine and serotonin, which are released during orgasm, help your body get into REM cycle better, which will make your sleep more restful.

Reason 7 – Improves Your Skin

Orgasms increase your body’s estrogen levels. Estrogen is key for the normal function of skin, blood vessels, hair follicles, oil glands, and melanocytes (aka pigment-producing cells).

Reason 8 – Reduces The Risk Of Prostate Cancer

Prostate owners’ regular ejaculation may help reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Studies have shown those who ejaculated more than 21 times a month lower the risk of prostate cancer by 31%.

Reason 9 – Improves Partner Sex

Masturbation is a way to get in touch with your body and what turns you on. This helps you relay that to your partner for better sex in general.

Reason 10 – Improves Confidence

Masturbating aids in developing self-awareness, body awareness, self-acceptance, and confidence. This translates to the bedroom but often the release of all the feel-good hormones from orgasm can carry over outside of the bedroom too.
